IPC was an Important factor in Nambooze’s Victory

1/7. Summary: The assistance/help Ms Nambooze was given by the party under imprisonment, during the perennial Court sessions over the years, during her induced illness, during imprisonment, etc and that she reportedly has got recently from the IPC are not MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. Only UNIY made this possible. Examples are many:

2/7. The IPC: Ken Lukyamuzi the “man”, Hon. Eperu, MP – who, {together with Ms Salaamu Musumba}, chased Nyombi Tembo’s bribery money-bags from Mukono town, to Kigombya, Kasenge (Mbalala), and away from Namawojolo market;  Dr. KB threatening anybody who dared touch the ‘teacher’s’ notes with “consequences-with fire” [they stole them at Kalagala and the fire was not seen. Instead, it is the learned Hon. Lukwago MP (DP)’s “kanyamas” who almost shed blood at the falsified result’s announcement-(only mitigated by the victory and by the fact that the stealing seems not to have been widely replicated at many other stations).

{‘kanyamas = are muscled ‘body-building’ body- guards in fashion with most (opposition) politicians today – since armed guards are the preserve of the NRMs alone}. {The ‘kanyama’ phenomenon as a political instrument was initiated by Eng. Ms Winnie Byanyima in the late ‘90’s. Ssebagala took it on and it’s now a fashion, even with musicians. Why? It is hard to harass a Ugandan, going his business, un-armed, simply because he has muscles/the body of a ‘potatoe-sack’ on him – but, they have been imprisoned too, sometimes}. To become a “kanyama” is a fad, if not a fashion, among the youth today.

3/7. The DP was heavily represented among the MP’s and at the grass roots (although Mmengo-factor was predominant here) and among the youth who teased Maj. Mutale’s ‘kiboko’ squads [whip-wielding goons] in the yellow bus at every opportunity, etc, thus, to some extent, negating their intended intimidatory machinations.

5/7.The Rev. Bakaluba and Co. feel betrayed, not only because the party ‘Faithfull’ voted for the Opposition but mainly because the ‘Return-On-Investment [ROI] during/after the election was so bad!!! The ‘per-capita cost for each vote’ won goes into millions, if all the ‘gifts’ [from the RDC’s office, from State Hose, from Cabinet members, from ISOs, DISOs, from Bakaluba, from the business branch, etc] are added. Any one else  would cry for that too, even you!!

5/7. What hurts the so called Rev. Bakaluba is the 400M/= he gave out in ‘Chai’ [Kamunye tabloid]. But he is not crying alone. Moses Byaruhanga of State House poured more than that, so did Nyombi Tembo, the Vi.Pr; Hon. Werikhe, etc, etc.

So, the people support the thing for ’emere ya leero’ (for daily survival). It is obvious these dancing are there because of merry-making, nothing else. Otherwise, if they all voted right or used the millions of ‘facilitation funds’ right, why did they not win?? Watch the video: Only two of the hundresd are sad or look sad.

6/7. Heroes: One must salute the ‘boda-boda’ boys for ‘teachning’ the oligarch’s lesson: they received money at very many ‘facilitation points’ and yet still voted ‘right’ all the same. This is what hurts Bakaluba more than anything else. He should put the question more rightly thus: “why did you ‘eat’ y money for nothing?”, other than purring it indirectly, “..Why did you betray me?” because, pour money into Mukono, they really did, to the extent that the inflation caused there is spilling back into Kampala city [people are buying boda-cycle taxis, marrying brides, etc]. So compatriots, Ugandans are wiser now.
7/7. Conclusion: The IPC-DP efforts were/are complimentary rather than contradictory and surely, NOT MUTUALLY exclusive. There is no reason, therefore, as to why one should focus on and propagate the ‘artificial’ differences, other than on common factors, unless one serves the interests on the powers that be.

  2. Christopher Muwanga,

Summary: Even those who wish to recall that Hon. Nambooze sold banana leaves in Mukono market and has been working in brick-mines (to build her abode) must believe/know that ‘man’ is an intelligent animal capable of learning. Many of our learned compatriots today herded goats in childhood and are now professors. So, do not judge her by what she was in the past Judge Nambooze by her current capabilities.

1/3. Do not judge one by what one did yesterday but what one is doing now/will do tomorrow.

2/3. Back to the diminutive lady: there are two reasons I think she is capable of communicating her wishes in the appropriate language in the August House:

    · On one of her talk-shows on Simba Fa Ma {Luganda for Simba FM], she taught ‘Maslow’s hierarchy of needs’ in Luganda [trying to prove that the corrupt of Uganda, after the bush poverty and starvation, even after getting enough food, clothing, shelter, still want to stay longer in power for purposes of ‘self-actualisation’, etc…]. I am not sure this theory has been written about so much in the vernacular publications. She must have therefore read it from the original sources.

    · Two: It is clear that one criterion for entering the Parliament of Uganda is “proficiency in the English language” and/or a minimum of A-level certificate. So, Nambooze must have improved her self, even after selling banana-leaves as a market girl and after working as a ‘council askari’ (enforcement officer or “musirike {-demeaning Luganda for an un-armed guard whose only threat to miscreants and criminals is “keep quiet/oder otherwise I stone you”, a threat that would otherwise be “I’ll shoot you” is he/she were armed. In some Luo dialects these harmless ‘gombolola askaris’ are derogatorily called “ogwangweno” – [literally: chicken stealing {wild} fox].

3/3. Conclusion: Give the ‘ka-Woman’ a break. [prefix “ka”– creates the diminutive form in the Luganda language].After all, how many MP’s have been in Parliament for 5 years without uttering a word, the Rev. Bakaluba inclusive (so long as they wake up at voting time and shout “Aye” for state programmes?).

    Christopher Muwanga,

  3. Tugumizemu Vernon,

Nambooze’s English cant move any motion in Parliament, may be in Luganda.

I have never herd Nambooze speak English not even at any political talk-show,and you????

Madam teacher’s English is wanting and what she actually speaks is always a mix of Luganda (Luga-flow)!!!

Am scared she may be caught off cuff once in a while on the Luganda side, every one will ‘huuuuuuuuuuuuuuum’

  4. abbey Semuwemba,

Thanks for yours below. I think NRM are falling into the Nambooze’s trap: calling her all sorts of names. I watched a video of Mr.Ofwono Opondo saying that Nambooze will say nothing on the floor of parliament in the remaining 6 months apart from swearing in. I was amazed that Mr.Opondo could sunk himself so low like that- attacking a honourable member of parliament and an icon of the Buganda kingdom.

Nambooze represents a lot of things in parliament and that is what NRM should know. The more they belittle her in public, the more popular she becomes. When Mr.Ofwono Opondo called Nambooze ‘just a poor woman’, he forgot that this kind of talk will keep bringing her closer to the poor who are the majority in Uganda. It seems NRM has not learnt from the early days of MayorSsebagala Nasser where the later used to speak broken English and the Kampalans associated themselves with him.Actually, they nicknamed him ‘seya’, ‘our man’, and stuff like that, and similarly i can see it happening with Nambooze soon, if NRM continue gearing such nasty attacks towards her.

By the way, what is this nosense of ‘Nambooze’s English can’t move a motion in parliament’? It’s pure nosense and i think we have already covered this:http://semuwemba.wordpress.com/2010/05/29/does-speaking-english-fluently-make-someone-more-intelligent-than-others/. Those who wish to revisit this debate can click on that link.

Nambooze is such a charming, extraordinary lady and i think she will do well in parliament. When she is talking in her Luganda on radio stations, you dont wanna move away, even an inch. She is a real class act and people will continue loving her. She and Medi Nsereko can make a goog team. It’s unfortunate that CBS is still closed such that Nsereko is taking refugee here in London. My only request to Nambooze is one: ‘She should let her hair grow since she is now in parliament’. Let her relax a little bit and enjoy it with some beautiful hair please.

  5. Christopher Muwanga,

Thanks Abbey for that. Meanwhile, read thsi:

Brief: Nambooze is strong and capable of anything. How many men can survive ‘solitary confinement’ under Gen. Tinyefuza’s goons?

1/2. After her captivity for crusading against the land {grabbing} law {Note: people were evicted from their bibanja even this week, end of May 2010. M7 himself is ordering the Nagulu-Nakawa residents to vanish to nowhere – but, that is for another day}, I met her at City Shoppers’, Mukono, with her kid and husband. I saluted her , “kulika yo mu buwambe nnyabo” [welcome back from captivity, mother/madam]. She looked at me searchingly, with her admittedly intimidating but tired eyes and tiny frame, “munange, si byaangu” i.e. “it’s not easy, dear” {she had never talked to me but notice the magnanimity in her – the source of her strength}. My advice then: “take a rest”. The next time I heard of her she was in “Sausi” (as we call S. Africa here these days). The rest is history.

2/2. Lesson: Namboze will manage. She only needs to get her first stipend and go to the posh ‘Game’ Saloon [Lugogo by-pass]. A “Matembe hair-do” [one centimetre shot hair] will do. The she will sooner get her 300M/= from defeated Rev. Bakaluba as damages for wasting her 4 needless years in Court. The pimples will be history and man, this ka-woman will shake Parliament. Only listen to her inaugural speech, for an appetizer.
